Sales/Interpretation Associate

Hawai`i Pacific Parks Association seeks part-time and full-time Sales/Interpretation Associates for its bookstores in Haleakalā National Park located in Maui, HI. The Sales/Interpretation Associate greets and welcomes visitors, provides information and interpretation, and promotes the sales of interpretive merchandise.


Duties include, but are not limited to:
Greet and welcome visitors, and provide basic visitor information and interpretation;
Assist visitors in the selection of appropriate interpretive merchandise;
Complete sales transactions;
Maintain the appearance and function of the sales area;
Secure all monies with appropriate documentation;
Receive, price and process incoming merchandise;
Assist with duties such as office, banking or inventory-related functions
Follow standard operating procedures as required when working in a National Park Service visitor facility; and,
Solicit Memberships for the Association.


Depending on the agreement of the Association and the Park Service, certain Sales/Interpretation Associates may be asked to participate in the following activities:
Conduct interpretive talks or other programs.
Participate in cultural programs and demonstrations.


High School diploma or GED.
Previous retail sales experience.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Demonstrated cash-handling skills.
Working knowledge of cash registers (preferably POS system) and credit card machines.
Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and exercise good judgment.
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and lift 25 lbs.
Must be able to work at high altitudes
Must have positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professional demeanor.
Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Should have basic knowledge of Haleakalā National Park and the surrounding areas.


Knowledge of office management and basic bookkeeping.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic knowledge of Hawai‘i’s national parks and surrounding areas.


Hours per Week:40 and 32
Starting Date:July 2017
